Old Toongabbie is a genuinely established suburb. Many of the homes here have had the same owners for a long time, and the bathrooms often reflect that. Not necessarily neglect, just age and the accumulation of small fixes over the years.
A few things come up regularly when we come out to quote in Old Toongabbie:
Waterproofing that’s well past its life. Waterproofing membranes have a lifespan, and in older bathrooms it’s often long expired. Sometimes there’s visible dampness or mould. Sometimes it’s hidden behind the tiles and only shows up during demolition. Either way, it needs to be properly addressed before anything new goes in.
Plumbing that’s been added to over the years. Older homes in the suburb often have plumbing that’s been modified by previous tradespeople, sometimes to a good standard, sometimes not. When we open up a bathroom, we check what’s actually there and replace anything that doesn’t meet current requirements.
Layouts that made sense in a different era. Bathrooms from the 1950s and 60s were designed around different habits and expectations. Separate toilet rooms, no storage to speak of, showers that feel like an afterthought. A renovation is a chance to rethink the whole layout rather than just update the finishes.
Asbestos. Homes built before the late 1980s in Old Toongabbie may have asbestos in bathroom walls, ceilings, or floor sheeting. We test before demolition starts and manage safe removal as part of the project. This is non-negotiable.
